The height is different on 4th gen 4Runners, some of them sit at 18 inches, some at 18.5 and some at 19 inches, the rear is 21 inches on these vehicles. The 112-620 springs provide about 2.5 inches of lift on the front end on 4Runners 2003-2009 and also let’s keep in mind that some of them are 8 cylinder engines and are a little heavier than a V6 so a lift can be different. We always advise clients to measure the stock height on these 4Runners before lifting the vehicle so that way we know exactly how much lift the vehicle requires to level it or lift it.

We’ve seen many many cases where the client cranks the front and ends up at 5 inches just to level the vehicle with the rear just to level it after a 2 inch lift on the rear. It is not recommended to have more then 3” of front lift.

Alignments specs:
Caster is 3 to 3.5 degrees and not more than 4
Camber is factory spec

There are many different Brands and types of Upper Control Arms. Here we will cover basic three: SPC Light Racing, Total Chaos and ICON

Total Chaos:

Total Chaos is a high performance upper control arms designed for heavy duty off roading and faster pace off roading as well. It uses a uniball BUT it requires maintenance which consist on every few weeks cleaning the upper ball joint with a microfiber towel and add TriFlo lubricant otherwise the arm will be making squeaky or clunking noises since everything is metal vs metal around the upper ball joint. Caster is built into the arm for alignments, that is why the arm is bend 3 degrees to the back and helps with articulation on the front end when off roading or daily driving.

SPC:

SPC is designed for daily driving and easy to moderate trails. The upper ball joint is similar to OEM type ball joint but way more durable and stronger, fully adjustable and re greaseable. This arm is the only upper control in the market that helps you with camber and caster when it comes to alignment. We recommend to regrease the upper ball joint right after installation and regrease or inspect grease every oil change. They got redesigned a couple months ago so now they use a bushing/heim hybrid combo for even more articulation and durability. Overall one of my favorite upper control arms and they are on the affordable side.

ICON:

ICON is offering different arms for different applications, billet arms with delta joint are aluminum and super high performance specially for racing on sand dunes and/or dirt roads, tubular for rock crawling and aggressive off roading. Their new Delta joint is similar as the Total Chaos but it is sealed so dirt, water or mud can’t get in the ball joint.

The customers ask us:

2017 4Runner TRD Pro

I have about 100 lbs. added front end weight due to a bumper and winch and would like to be able to lift and adjust the front end, but also carry the extra weight. Currently the front end feels packed and compressed. Please advice what coils to use.”

If the vehicle is a TRD PRO 4Runner

actually the front coil spring is
lighter than the other versions, the reason why is because the 4Runner
TRD PRO us tuned for racing on sand dunes and dirt roads that is why the
use a Bilstein shock with a digressive valving to absorb bumps much
better than a progressive valving shock. We’d recommend to measure from
the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the fender to diagnose how
much the front end went down with 100 lbs of extra weight. If is not
much we can offer spacers

ToyTec Front Top Plate 3/4″ Spacer Kit

just to bring the front end 1/2 – 3/4 of an inch
(if the vehicle is completely stock)

if the client decides to go with a 2 inch
diameter shock technically he will be downgrading his suspension since
these 4Runners TRD PRO come with a 2.5 inch diameter shock body. I would
recommend and Icon coil over (digressive valving) or BOSS 2.5
(progressive valving) that way the client can stay with a 2.5 shock,
although by having a progressive valving shock it will eliminate the
“racing performance” of the vehicle

Our customers are interested in if the  TRD PRO skid plate on 3rd gen Tacomas will work with differential drop kit.

We can answer, that  TRD PRO skid plates are very weird on design. It will work, but longer bolts are required in order to install the differential drop kit
