OME 2-2.5″ Rear Lift Heavy Duty Coils for 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner ARB 2891

ARB/OME 2-2.5″ Rear Lift Heavy Duty Coils for 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner (ARB 2891)

Old Man Emu (OME) 2891 heavy duty rear coil springs are engineered specifically for the 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner to support a constant rear load of about 660 lb while maintaining proper ride height, stability, and control on and off the pavement.

These coils are ideal for 3rd gen 4Runners running rear bumpers, swing-out tire carriers, drawer systems, roof-top tents, fridge setups, or other permanent cargo that keeps weight in the back full-time.

Key Features

  • Designed for 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner (3rd generation) rear suspension.
  • Approximate rear lift: 2.5–3” on a lightly loaded truck, around 2–2.5” with 600–660 lb of constant rear load.
  • Heavy duty spring rate (approx. 210 lb/in), significantly firmer than the factory 4Runner rear coils (around 150 lb/in).
  • Driver-side coil is slightly taller to help correct typical 4Runner driver-side lean (A/B marked coils).
  • Manufactured from high-quality micro-alloyed spring steel for long-term durability.
  • Computer-precision formed, double scragged, and shot-peened for consistent long-term performance.
  • Durable black powder-coat finish for corrosion resistance.
  • Improved load support, stability, and body control with heavy overland or towing setups.
  • Works best with shocks tuned for 2–3” of rear lift.
  • Alignment required after installation of any suspension lift components.

Vehicle Fitment

  • 1996 Toyota 4Runner
  • 1997 Toyota 4Runner
  • 1998 Toyota 4Runner
  • 1999 Toyota 4Runner
  • 2000 Toyota 4Runner
  • 2001 Toyota 4Runner
  • 2002 Toyota 4Runner

Load Rating and Recommended Use

ARB/OME 2891 coils are classified as heavy duty and designed around a constant rear load of approximately 660 lb. This makes them ideal for 4Runners equipped with:

  • Rear steel bumpers
  • Tire carriers
  • Drawer systems
  • Fridge setups and tools
  • Camping or overland gear

They prevent sagging, reduce bottoming out, and maintain rear ride height under heavy expedition loads.

Q Will these coil spring fit my toyota 4runner 1997 limited 2wd?
A yes will fit you'll need rear shocks that are longer than stock shocks such as https://www.suspensionlifts.com/shop/toyota-4runner/1996-2002/shocks-96-02-toyota-4runner/rear-old-man-emu-shocks-1996-2002-toyota-4runner/ https://www.suspensionlifts.com/product-category/toyota-4runner/1996-2002/?swoof=1&pa_frontrear=rear&pa_lift=0-8,0-25,0-5,0-6,0-75,0-87,0-9,1,1-25,1-3,1-45,1-5,1-6,1-7,1-75,1-8,1-875,2&really_curr_tax=32-product_cat
A yes, they just installed on my 97 4runner sr5 2wd 270,000miles. and just replace the shocks if you haven't done so, shocks have to get moved to install these coils. shocks are easy, a blind man could replace shocks on a 97 4runner. upgrades are always nice but the driver tells the machine what to do. react to the road and driving conditions and it don't matter what shocks you got.
    4. I have toytec shocks. Will these coils be compatible or do I need longer shocks?

Q I have toytec shocks. Will these coils be compatible or do I need longer shocks?
A old coils come out new "heavy duty" 2891 coils go in. longer shocks not needed or control arms. just replace some bushings while you have the time and stuff is apart.
    6. 1999 Toyota 4runner with Aftermarket rear bumper and swing out spare rack. Installed 2890 springs but it only gave me an inch of lift. I don't know the weight of the rear bumper, rack and spare tire but I'd guess it all to add up to about 375 to 425lbs. I do have a second gas tank in the spare tire slot which would add another 150lbs or so but I wouldn't be at the 660lbs of constant weight that is referenced for the 2891 springs. The 2890 springs only give me about and 1.5 inch of lift with the current constant load at whatever it is. Does it sound like the 2891 would give me the remaining 1.5 inches without being too stiff given the roughly 400-525 lbs of constant weight?
